PRESIDENT Michael Sata was yesterday in Zimbabwe to attend the wedding of President Robert Mugabe’s only daughter, Bona.
President Sata, who arrived in Harare aboard the Presidential Challenger at about 12:40 hours, was accompanied by his wife Dr Christine Kaseba, Special Assistant to the President for Press and Public Relations George Chellah and other senior Government officials.
Zimbabwean Defence Minister  Sydney Sekeramayi, Zambian High Commissioner to Zimbabwe Ndiyoyi Mutiti and other senior Government officials received Mr Sata.
President Sata is among other African Heads of State and foreign dignitaries who will be attending the wedding.
Others expected to attend the wedding are South African President Jacob Zuma, his Namibian counterpart Hifikepunye Pohamba, Mozambique’s Armando Guebuza and Teodoro Obiang Nguema Mbasogo of Equatorial Guinea.
Former South African president Thabo Mbeki was also expected to attend the wedding while Zambia’s first Republican president Kenneth Kaunda was represented by his daughter Kaweche Kaunda-Silwizya.
The church service was scheduled to start at 14:00 hours to 16:00 hours while the reception was expected to start at 18:00 hours and end at about 06:00 today.
A massive marquee tent was pitched at President Mugabe’s home in Borrowdal, Harare, ahead of the event, which was expected to be attended by about 5,000 guests.
France-based rumba icon Koffi Olomide was to lead the entertainment at the ceremony.
Bona, 24, is Mr Mugabe’s daughter born to his second wife Grace.
She tied the knot with pilot Simba Chikore yesterday at Mugabe’s home in Borrowdale.
Meanwhile, President Sata said on his Facebook page that the centrepiece of the PF’s programme for Zambia’s economy was the pursuit of growth and development.
“Let us unite under our motto ‘One Zambia One Nation’ and continue working tirelessly with ever-greater urgency to ensure that we succeed,” Mr Sata posted. – ZANIS/Times
