PRESIDENT Hakainde Hichilema has said US$2.3 billion estimated to be spent in the construction of the 750 megawatts Kafue Gorge Lower (KGL) hydro power plant in Chikankata District is too high.
Speaking after touring the plant yesterday, President Hichilema said the amount was too high compared to the scope of the project.
“I argue that this project is being done at $2.3 billion. Yes it is a huge project as stated by the Chinese Ambassador and the Zesco managing director but this New Dawn Government wants to make sure that all projects are done at the right price,” Mr Hichilema said.
