ACC public relations manager Timothy Moono said in a statement yesterday that Songwe Malama, 38, a Clerk of Court at Solwezi Subordinate Court and Charles Mutale, 38, a prison warder at Solwezi Central Prison were arrested on Monday for soliciting money to wrongfully facilitate release of a prisoner.
The duo are charged with one count of corrupt practices by public officer contrary to section 19(1) as read with section 40 of the anti-corruption commission act number 38 of 2010.
Mr Moono said the particulars of the offence are that on dates unknown but between January 1, 2012 and January 31, 2012 in Solwezi, the duo corruptly solicited for K4,000 and actually received K2,500 cash gratification from a Wilfred Chakufola through his relative Sodala Charles.
This amount was solicited for by the two as an inducement or reward for themselves in order for them to facilitate the release of the said Chakufola, who was remanded at Solwezi Prison for a criminal offence.
The two have been released on bond and would appear in court on March 3, this year.
