DEFENCE Minister Edgar Lungu has re-affirmed the Government’s commitment to take development to all parts of the country.
Speaking at the Zambia Air Force (ZAF) annual ball at Chamba Valley Air Force headquarters on Friday night, Mr Lungu said the Government was determined to develop the country for the benefit of all citizens.
The minister also acknowledged the efforts by ZAF in attracting investment into the country.
“It is as a result of your effort that our country is able to pursue the goal of becoming a middle-income nation because without security, there can be no development,” Mr Lungu said.
“Suffice to mention that apart from monitoring the airspace to guarantee the much-needed peace for development, ZAF takes part on the economic front by availing its air assets to both Government and non-governmental officials to access remote parts of the country.”
ZAF air commander Lieutenant-General Eric Chimese affirmed the air force’s commitment esuring that the country attracts more investment by providing security.
“Countries with strong defence systems attract more direct investment as no investor is willing to invest in an environment where there is a weak defence force,” Gen Chimese said.
Gen Chimese also said ZAF would continue to reposition itself in the face of terrorism.
He cautioned men and women in uniform to remain non-partisan in line with the Constitution.
He warned that those found wanting would be expeditiously removed from the air force.
He acknowledged the Government’s support to ZAF.
