ZAMBIA’S bid to host the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) will face a reality check in July when a five-member Confederation of African Football (CAF) team arrives to inspect the facilities.
CAF appointed a group of experts to check on the preparedness of the six candidates competing for the staging of the 2019 and 2021 AFCON tournaments.
The CAF team has executive committee members, Amadou Diakite of Mali and Chad’s Adoum Djibrine.
Others are FIFA expert, Walter Gagg of Switzerland, Nigeria-based CAF expert, Paul Bassey and CAF’s AFCON tournament director, Amr Fahmy.
The inspectors will kick-off their tour of duty in Ivory Coast and Guinea in April before shifting to Algeria and Cameroon in May.
Zambia’s facilities and those for the Democratic Republic of Congo will be inspected in July.
The voting to determine the hosts for the 2019 and 2021 AFCON events will be conducted during the CAF executive committee meeting in September.
Zambia has so far constructed two state-of-art stadiums in Ndola and Lusaka while plans were underway to put up two more world-class facilities in Livingstone and Mongu.
