GOVERNMENT through Disaster Management and Mitigation Unit (DMMU) has released 2000 X 50 kilogramme  bags of maize to be delivered to hunger hit households in Luangeni Constituency in Chipata District.
Luangeni area Member of Parliament Charles Zulu said yesterday that DMMU dispatched the bags of relief maize to the constituency following the request he made to the unit.
Mr Zulu who is also Deputy Minister of Energy and Water Development said he was happy that the DMMU approved and released the bags of maize as per request made on behalf of the starving villagers.
“Disaster Management and Mitigation Unit (DMMU) have released 2000 X 50 KGs bags of relief food to be distributed to the people faced with hunger in Luangeni Constituency. I made a request last year and finally the relief food had been released in readiness for the distribution in the area,” he said.
Mr Zulu commended DMMU for the quick response and said Chipata District Commissioner Kalunga Zulu has been entrusted to identify a faith based organisation which could assist in the distribution of relief food to the area.
He urged people of the area to support the Government as it was working hard to better the lives of the vulnerable people in society.
