FIRST Republican president Kenneth Kaunda has been taken ill and is admitted to Lusaka Trust Hospital.
Dr Kaunda, 90, was admitted to the hospital on Friday evening for an unspecified illness.
It is not clear what Dr Kaunda is suffering from warranting an overnight admission to the hospital, as there was no information either from the hospital or his office.
By yesterday morning, Dr Kaunda was still at Lusaka Trust Hospital as could be seen from the presence of his daughter Cheswa and some of his aides who were moving in and out of Lusaka Trust Hospital premises.
Dr Kaunda’s condition remained a mystery as management at Lusaka Trust Hospital remained tight-lipped about the condition of the former head of State.
The former president, who has maintained a strict vegetarian diet since the 1960s, has enjoyed remarkable health as seen from his demonstration of how energetic he still is by making short sprints at public functions where he fondly urges the youth never to walk but run in keeping up with the national development agenda.
A close relative who was found at Lusaka Trust Hospital and chose to remain anonymous, said that Dr Kaunda was doing fine.
The relative, however, said that the nation should understand that Dr Kaunda was at an advanced age. He is 90 years old.
