Failure to have a substantive coach in place when the Cameroon 2022 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers started contributed to Zambia’s inability to qualify for the final tournament, FAZ President Andrew Kamanga has said.
Breaking his silence since Zambia’s failure to qualify for the AFCON finals following the 3-all draw with the Desert Foxes of Algeria last week, Kamanga says what happened was painful for the Zambians.
“In reflecting on this failure, we cannot avoid regretting that we started the campaign without a substantive coach in place which saw us lose the first two matches against Algeria away (5-0) and against Zimbabwe (2-1). Our efforts to recruit a coach suffered serious resistance leaving us to rely on our local coaches that oversaw the first two matches,” he said.
