THE eligible inmates to vote in the August 12 general election now depends on Parliament as it resumes business today whether to pass or not the Electoral Process (Amendment) Bill No. 30 of 2021 in a session to be dissolved, mid-May.
The Parliamentary Committee on Legal Affairs, Human Rights, National Guidance, Gender Matters and Governance is tabling the Bill with witnesses appearing virtually to make submissions before the Committee makes a final report for consideration.
The Bill seeks to amend the Electoral Process Act, 2016, to among others provide for voting by persons in prisons, provide for distribution of campaign material in prisons by candidates in an election.
