ZESCO United yesterday unveiled George Lwandamina as head coach taking over from Tenant Chembo, who has been relegated to first team has assistant coach.
Lwandamina, who was fired by Red Arrows, has been given a three-year performance -based contract and tasked to win the MTN-FAZ Premier League title and reach the club in the group stages of the 2014 CAF Confederations Cup.
The appointment was announced by club chairperson Kenneth Muteto during a Press briefing held at Zesco Limited northern region offices in Ndola.
“I would like to announce some changes to our technical bench; the club has signed on Lwandamina as head coach on a three year contract. Tenant Chembo becomes first assistant with Alfred Lupiya as second assistant while Stephen Mwansa will continue as goalkeeper trainer,” he said.
Lwandamina’s appointment comes a month after he was placed on ‘administrative leave’ due to poor results by Arrows despite winning the Barclays Cup and finishing fourth in the league last season.
And Lwandamina’s first task in his new role will be the away first leg match against Ferroviaro da Beira of Mozambique on March 2, in the first round, first leg of the Confederations Cup.
Lwandamina is also Zambia Under-20 soccer team coach.
Meanwhile, Lwandamina said the targets set before him were attainable and that he would be equal to the task.
“With collective responsibility, we will make the targets attainable. Zesco is a good team with talented players and I will bring another dimension to what is already here,” he said.
Zesco have had a poor pre-season outing losing six successive games that includes the Samuel ‘Zoom’ Ndhlovu Charity Shield semi-final 2-1 defeat to Arrows.
