NKANA coach Masauso Mwale has refused to be drawn into a war of words with Kampala City Council Authority (KCCA) coach George Nsimbe ahead of their 2014 CAF Champions League first round, first leg match in Kitwe on March 1.
Nsimbe on Tuesday warned Nkana that they were gunning for revenge and should not be comfortable with playing the first leg at home especially after his teams’ giant killing act on February 8, when they beat much-fancied El Merriekh 2-0 away in Khartoum.
Mwale said in Kitwe that he was solely focused on getting Nkana in tune with the first leg match at Nkana Stadium.
“I don’t know how to go into war of words, mine is to concentrate on my team and build my team for a positive result when we meet KCCA.
“What he said is what he is thinking. Some coaches have spoken like that; ‘We have come to finish Nkana and we have come to do this’, but at the end of the day they do not want to talk to the Press after saying a lot of these things. So, for me I am just concentrating on my team,” Mwale said.
KCCA have never beaten Nkana in continental encounters.
The two sides’ last meeting in 1992 in the forerunner to the Champions League, the African Champions Cup, Nkana beat KCCA 6-0 on aggregate after a 4-0 away win in Kampala and 2-0 victory in Kitwe.
Nkana will travel to Kampala for the second leg on March 8, with the winner facing either Zamalek of Egypt who are coached by ex-Egypt star Mido or Angolan side Kabuscorp.
