ACTION returns to Simba School in Ndola tomorrow when nine schools battle it out in the First Quantum Minerals Limited (FQML) Inter-District Invitation rugby 15s Tournament.
The tournament comes barely a week after the school staged a Zambia Amateur Swimming Union (ZASU) swimming gala.
Tournament director Phil Dongo said the event sponsored by FQM is aimed at encouraging competition in schools rugby.
Dongo, who is also Ndola Schools rugby league organiser, named the participating schools as Simba, Chifubu, Chiwala, Masala from Ndola while Kitwe schools will be represented by Mpelembe, Malela and Ndeke with Mpongwe and Masaiti also taking part.
“Schools rugby is a strong foundation and we are happy that FQM has come on board to share our vision in promoting the sport in schools. This tournament is fully funded by FQM.
We have decided to invite a few schools because we want to encourage competition and seriousness in schools rugby,” he said.
Dongo said the schools will be split in two pools with Simba, Mpelembe, Chifubu, Masala and Mpongwe pitted in Pool A while Ndeke, Malela, Chiwala and Masaiti are in Pool B.
The games will be played on a round robin basis with the winners of each pool to play in the finals for the Bowl while runners up will square up for the Shield with the plate up for grabs for the third position.
