COPPERBELT is currently facing intermittent supply of mealie meal on the retail market resulting in long queues and near stampedes whenever an outlet is fully stocked.
A check in Kitwe and Ndola Central Business Districts (CBDs) yesterday showed the inadequate stocking of the staple food.
At Kitwe’s Matuka Avenue Antelope Milling selling depot, it had been five days since the outlet last stocked mealie meal thereby creating panic among consumers.
At nearby Shoprite, the situation was the same and by 11:00 hours there were just a few bags for five and 2.5 kilogrammes of roller as well as breakfast meal while Pick n Pay across the road had only 12.5 kg
and five kg bags on its shelves.
