EIGHTEEN suspected rioters who allegedly damaged public property following recent reports of alleged “gassing” of houses and public places in Lusaka’s Kanyama township have been denied bail.
Similarly, eight Ndola women who allegedly threatened violence against two HIV/AIDS counsellors following up a client who stopped taking their drugs, have also been denied bail.
Lusaka chief resident magistrate, Lameck Mwale yesterday declined to grant bail to the 18 persons who pleaded not guilty to damaging public property in ‘gassing’ related incidents.
Magistrate Lameck Mwale said in his ruling that looking at the situation generally and at what was happening in Lusaka particularly, it was his opinion that it would not be prudent to grant the accused persons bail until further notice.
