A GROUP of disabled people in Ndola has embarked on mobilisation of resources to pump into a carpentry shop it has established that would help its members earn a living.
Lesa Musuma Project for Persons with Disabilities has a membership of 50 men and women who are based in Chipulukusu Township in Ndola.
The group has established a carpentry shop where furniture such as chairs, cupboards, and tables are made by the members of the group in order to sell to the public.
Project chairperson Kaffison Lunda said the group had limited resources to expand their business which was registered and established in March last year.
He said the group needed financial assistance to help it expand so that more vulnerable disabled people could benefit from the venture.
Mr Lunda said the group hoped to engage in other income-generating activities such as gardening and tailoring.
He appealed to members of the public, companies and well-wishers to come on board and financially assist the group.
“Most people living with disabilities are surrounded by poverty. We have been sidelined in many developmental projects.
“This is the reason we formed this group so that we can empower ourselves with different skills to earn a living,” he said.
The group is registered under the Agency for People Living with Disabilities.
