COMMUNITY Development and Social Services Minister Olipa Phiri has said the Government was paying the Social Cash Transfer (SCT) funds in batches because donors had withdrawn their 25 per cent support to the programme last year.
Ms Phiri, however, assured that the Government would continue with the SCT scheme while it was still making efforts to woo the cooperating partners back on board.
Ms Phiri said in an interview in Lusaka recently that her ministry has been paying SCT scheme funds in batches because its 75 per cent stake in the programme was not adequate to support all the beneficiaries countrywide.
Ms Phiri said negotiations with the cooperating partners were still ongoing while her ministry, working with Smart Zambia Institute, was working towards transforming the SCT scheme by moving from manual to electronic payment mode.
