BHARTI Airtel is currently generating a total of one million transactions valued at US$ 25 million daily from an active base of five million customers listed on the Airtel money service across the African continent.
Bharti Airtel director and Africa Airtel money Chidi Okpala said leveraging a network of about 140,000 active agent locations; the service is creating an entire cashless payment ecosystems, leading the charge for massive scale financial inclusion and reducing financial transaction costs across Africa.
“Generating a daily average of 1million transactions valued at $25million from an active base of five million customers, the Airtel mobile money platform operating in fifteen African countries renders significant services to Governments and the armed forces,” he said.
He described the service as an innovation which enables customers to turn their phones into electronic wallets.
