Zambia 57-51 Zimbabwe
THE Zambia netball team on Wednesday evening recovered from an opening day defeat to register their first win at the ongoing Diamond Challenge in South Africa after beating rivals Zimbabwe.
Zambia came from behind in the first-half to beat rivals in a tightly contested game that turned out to be the game of the day.
Zambia coach Pauline Nsombo has however warned her players against complacency in order to attain the team’s goal of finishing in the top two.
Nsombo said beating Zimbabwe was a sweet revenge as Zambia suffered a painful loss against Zimbabwe during the World Cup qualifiers that were held in Zambia earlier this year.
“It was a tough game and we want to congratulate the players for the good spirit showed during the game. We still have to focus and try and win all other remaining games of the tournament and see how we shall finish,” Nsombo said.
She urged the players not to get carried away by the result but rather focus on the next game against Botswana.
Other results saw host nation, South Africa humiliate Botswana 83-16 while the SA President’s XI beat Namibia 61-31.
By press time yesterday, Zambia was scheduled to play Botswana before taking on Namibia today.
