ALLIANCE for Better Zambia (ABZ) has appointed Mulenga Shula as secretary general of the party.
ABZ president Frank Bwalya made the announcement in a letter dated February 14, this year, addressed to Ms Shula and made available to the Times yesterday.
Father Bwalya said Ms Shula’s appointment was with immediate effect.
He said the appointment was in line with ABZ constitution Article 46 clause (1) which states that the first office bearers at all levels would be appointed directly by the founding president of the party and may be disappointed in the same manner.
Fr Bwalya said Ms Shula’s specific duties and responsibilities were stipulated in the manual of duties and responsibilities of ABZ party officials.
“I urge you to apply yourself to the best of your ability to ensure that we provide the kind of leadership in our party that should accelerate the growth of ABZ and offer the people of Zambia a formidable alternative,” reads the letter in part.
Fr Bwalya said the success of the party in terms of administration depended on Ms Shula who would be the chief executive officer of ABZ.
He said Ms Shula would work on voluntary basis until such  a time when the party could afford to put her on a salary as a full-time employee.
Fr Bwalya described Ms Shula as intelligent, young, energetic and full of ideas and that the appointment made her the only woman in Zambia serving as secretary general of a political party.
