BARCLAYS Bank Zambia (BBZ) is one of the sponsors for the on- going 10th Information and Communications Technology for Development (ICT4D) Conference.
The conference which started yesterday and ends tomorrow is being held in Lusaka under the theme “Innovate, Connect, Transform” and brings together over 600 delegates from public, private and civil society organizations from the humanitarian and international development community across the globe with the aim of mobilizing assistance for marginalized and developing communities.
Commenting on the Bank’s sponsorship valued at K100, 000, BBZ Managing Director, Mizinga Melu said, “Our decision to sponsor this important event is aligned to our strategy of championing digital channel usage for a simple and convenient banking experience for our customers and stakeholders.”
“In line with our Shared Growth agenda which looks at adding value in communities that Barclays operates in, we are excited to be part of a global network that will help to improve financial inclusion through technological advancement. We have also partnered with financial technology institutions and the telecoms industry to allow the unbanked to access banking services using their mobile phones,” Ms. Melu added.

The bank has continued to invest in digital channel enhancements with services such as e-payments to National Pension Scheme Authority( Napsa) and the Zambia Revenue Authority(ZRA), bank to wallet transfers as well as mobile and online banking offering convenience for customers and stakeholders using Barclays banking products and services.
In addition, the bank has continued to work closely with Global Development Organizations (GDOs), local Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs), the Government and various community groups to spearhead financial inclusion.
The bank was recently named the 2018 Best Bank in Zambia and 2018 Best Corporate Bank in Zambia by the reputable Global Finance Magazine and Global Banking and Finance Review, respectively. BBZ has also been nominated for the 2018 Best Retail Bank and 2018 Socially Responsible Bank of the Year awards by the African Banker Magazine, a recognition that is a testimony of the bank’s commitment to providing world-class banking solutions to customers and stakeholders.
