THE Civil Servants and Allied Workers Union of Zambia (CSAWUZ) has expressed concern at way some transfers of civil servants are being done without following regulations and thereby disrupting marriages.
CSAWUZ president Davy Chiyobe said his union had received complaints from its members from Central and Copperbelt Provinces and had decided to write to the Civil Service Commission to address the problem.
Mr Chiyobe noted that transfers were being implemented with no consideration of families.
“Some of the transfers are separating families, threatening the core of the family. There are rules and regulations on how a public officer should be transferred and these should be adhered to,” he said.
He noted that while it was true that every civil servant accepted to work anywhere in Zambia when they were being employed, some transfers were irregular and amounted to intimidation and harassment.
Mr Chiyobe claimed that there was also a number of violations of staff conditions being committed in the transfer process, with some workers being transferred without being paid their settling allowances as per requirement.
He reiterated his warning to public workers against involving themselves in partisan politics saying doing so would only compromise service delivery to the people.
“Let us work without engaging ourselves in politics, our core mandate as public workers is to provide services to the people. We are not politicians,” he said.
