THE Handball Association of Zambia (HAZ) has secured an international friendly match with Zimbabwe for national team in readiness of the nineth Africa Nations Championship to be held in Kenya next month.
HAZ president Victor Bwalya-Banda said the friendly match would greatly help the team fine-tune ahead of the continental competition that starts on March 14 to 30 in Nairobi.
The Kenya tournament will be the final Male Youth Qualifier for the August 2014 Nanjing Youth Olympic Games in China.
Banda said the association had lined up a training tour of the Copperbelt after the Zimbabwe friendly.
He said the team would play a series of matches against the Copperbelt select team and various clubs.
“We have stepped up preparations for the Kenya tour with only a few weeks remaining before the competition starts in Nairobi. I am happy with the team so far, the morale in camp is high and we look forward to playing Zimbabwe in on March 1,” he said.
Banda said the national team had intensified its training adding that the team at the weekend recorded a resounding 22-17 victory over the Central Province senior select side.
Hard hitting centre-back Nathan Shiluwe again emerged the player of the match after scoring six times to inspire the squad to an emphatic win, having scored eight goals in last week’s friendly against Green Eagles.
