PRESIDENT Edgar Lungu has congratulated Botswana’s president Mokgweetsi Masisi on his appointment to the post.
Mr Lungu said Mr Masisi’s appointment demonstrated the trust and confidence that the people of Botswana had in his vision to guide the country on a path of continued peace, unity and prosperity.
“I pledge close collaboration with President Masisi to further consolidate relations between Zambia and Botswana,” the President said.
This is contained in a statement issued yesterday by Special Assistant to the President for Press and Public Relations Amos Chanda.
Mr Lungu expressed confidence that through regular dialogue the two countries would forge innovative and strategic partnerships to deepen regional integration and ensure peace, security and stability in the Southern African Development Community (COMESA) region.
The President has also congratulated Egypt’s Abdel El-sisi on his reelection in last month’s elections.
Mr Lungu described Mr El-sisi’s reelection as a mark of confidence shown by Egyptians in his leadership and this promoted democracy in Africa.
Zambia assured Egypt of its renewed commitment to enhancing cooperation with the North African country for the benefit of people in the two nations.
Mr Lungu further congratulated Ethiopia’s Prime Minister Ably Ali on his appointment and subsequent swearing-in.
The President reaffirmed Zambia’s commitment to deepen bilateral cooperation stating he looked forward to enhancing economic cooperation between Zambia and Ethiopia as well as promote peace and security on the continent.
