THREE people died on the spot while two others sustained injuries in an accident which happened yesterday on the Great North Road, about one kilometre north of Landless Corner Police post.
Police spokesperson in a statement said involved in the accident was Lukonde, other name and age not known, of Serenje who was driving a Mitsubishi Fuso registration number ALF 538 from the northern direction to southern direction and Shadrick Silwamba, 32, of Katozi township in Nakonde who had parked his Scania truck registration number AHB 490 facing the southern direction after it had a breakdown.
The driver of the Mitsubishi Fuso due to excessive speed, hit into the stationary Scania Truck.
The driver of the Mitsubishi Fuso, together with his two female passengers, Martha Kabwe of Matero Township in Lusaka and one unknown, died on the spot after sustaining fatal injuries while another passenger identified as Josephine Bauleni of Kabwe sustained head injuries and is admitted to Liteta Hospital.
The driver of the Scania Truck also sustained injuries and is admitted to Liteta Hospital.
The bodies of the deceased were taken to Chisamba Clinic mortuary.
And a two-seater white plane, number 9 JYR V has crashed, killing the pilot identified as Charles Rea aged 65 of Kawiko area, a Zambian by birth, also Irish by origin.
This happened yesterday at about 08:30 hours at Kawiko Airstrip in Mwinilunga of North-Western Province.
The plane is reported to have crashed after the pilot lost control while on the runway before taking off, flew at a height of 50 metres and then crashed to the ground.
The pilot died on the spot after sustaining head injuries. The body has been retrieved from the scene and taken to Kaleni Mission Hospital mortuary.
