KANKOYO Member of Parliament Brian Mushimba will in the next two weeks launch a K230,000 Mushimba Scholarship Fund targeting to benefit about 130 school going children in his constituency.
In an interview in Mufulira, Mr Mushimba said 130 pupils who made it to grade 10 but cannot afford to meet the school requisites have been shortlisted.
Mr Mushimba who is Transport and Communication Minister said education was a great equaliser hence the need to fund the girl and boy child education adding that those shortlisted would be funded up Grade 12.
He said the reason he was implementing empowerment projects was to improve the economic well-being of the people in the area.
On road infrastructure, Mr Mushimba said 25 kilometres of roads have been allocated to Kankoyo under the Copperbelt 400 project and that very soon works would start.
He also said the upgrading of various markets in his constituency had advanced and that the idea was to turn markets into multipurpose centres to encompass recreation facilities and skills training among others to revive the mining constituency’s economy.
Mr Mushimba would like works such as drainages to be given to locals during the execution of C400 road project in Kankoyo.
