LUSAKA Province has recorded 14 new cholera cases in the previous 24 hours, Health Minister Chitalu Chilufya has said.
Dr Chilufya said of the 14 victims 11 were adults, while three were children but no death has been recorded so far.
He said five of the victims were reported at the National Heroes stadium cholera treatment centre, while four were recorded in Chawama, three in Chipata and two in Matero townships respectively.
Dr Chilufya said at a joint Press briefing with his Higher and General Education counterparts’ Nkandu Luo and David Mabumba yesterday that none of the victims were administered a dose of the oral cholera vaccine during the recent vaccination exercise in Lusaka.
He said the national cumulative total of cholera cases currently stood at 4,388, with 4,299 successful treatments and 89 deaths.
Dr Chilufya said of the 89 deaths, 55 were at community level and that outside Lusaka central, two cholera cases had been recorded in Kafue and Shibuyunji districts.
