THE Government has received 600 hectares of land from Senior Chief Sikufele of Kabompo district in North-Western Province for the construction of a university.
Kabompo District Commissioner Rodiness Shatewa-Ndumba said the land was meant for the construction of a Mathematics and Science University.
Ms Ndumba said a surveillance team was already on the ground and that soon, construction would commence.
She commended the Patriotic Front (PF) Government under the leadership of President Edgar Lungu for the move to construct a university in the district.
Ms Ndumba said the move would ease the challenges most parents faced in sending their children to colleges outside the province.
She added that once completed, school leavers would have access to tertiary education which most of them lacked because most parents had no money to send them to colleges in other towns.
“We are very happy that we will have a university that will not only cater for the district but also the province and others,” Ms Ndumba said.
She said the district had continued to receive development citing the connection of the district to the national electricity grid which was attracting attracted investors.
