KITWE District Education Board (DEBs) Secretary Allan Kaoma has disclosed that the developer who allegedly bought off Wusakile Secondary School football pitch with intentions of setting up a shopping mall has now shifted to Malela Secondary School with similar intentions.
Mr Kaoma has, however, vowed that the developer will not be tolerated.
Speaking yesterday when he addressed parents of the pupils at the school, Mr Kaoma warned foreign investors wishing to construct shopping malls in the district to stay away from school land, as this will only disrupt school activities.
“It has come to our attention that the same developer is allegedly targeting Malela Secondary School and as the DEBs we will not tolerate this, we are therefore warning foreign investors wishing to construct shopping malls in Kitwe to stay away from school land because this will compromise with learning standards of the pupils,” he said.
He said the developer who visited his office over the same issue of land spoke with some level of pomposity.
“He visited me at my office and spoke so much with authority over the same land like it is his, but I told him that you can go on, but when you go far with your construction works since he insisted that he will go ahead and build, I told him I will put an injunction in the courts of law and will win the case,” he said.
“He even lied that he consulted and engaged the community and that the people agreed, which is contrary to what is pertaining on the ground,” he said.
Mr Kaoma added that the Ministry has however strongly opposed to such a move and will not let it unresolved.
The DEBs said even Wusakile Member of Parliament Pavyuma Kalobo was equally opposed to the sale of the land, as it was important to the school.
