THE Patriotic Front (PF) in Southern Province has said calls to impeach President Edgar Lungu are baseless and aimed at derailing Government from developing the country to fulfil the PF’s election promises to the people.
Provincial chairperson Trymore Mwenda said PF was not surprised by what he described as ‘mere tactics’ aimed at swaying the President from focusing on development to better living conditions among Zambians.
“We remind the opposition that attempts to ascend to power using the backdoor will not succeed. Zambia’s democracy allows for periodic holding of elections through which the citizens decide who leads them,” Mr Mwenda said.
This is contained in a statement issued yesterday.
He said it was unrealistic for the opposition to push such an agenda, saying this was unattainable.
Mr Mwenda said there were no grounds to warrant impeachment of the President whose running mandate expired in 2021.
PF applauded President Lungu for standing firm in the face of opposition and for ignoring giving the distractive agenda.
“Our call is on the President to remain resolute for he has a huge task to deliver to the expectation of Zambian people who have bestowed upon him the leadership of this country,” Mr Mwenda said.
The PF structures in Southern Province have also praised Lungu over the recent reshuffle of his cabinet which would boost Government performance.
Mr Mwenda said the reshuffle was timely and the party expressed confidence the reassigned ministers and the entire cabinet had been rejuvenated by the changes.
