A MAN is nursing injuries at Kamototo Mission Hospital in Mambwe District in the Eastern Province after being attacked by a lion.
Josepha Muleya, a manager at Tundwe Hunting Safari Lodge in South Luangwa National Park was attacked by a lion which had strayed into the lodge premises.
Mr Muleya, who sustained severe injuries on his right arm after the attack, was only saved from death after some villagers came to his rescue.
South Luangwa Game Management Area (GMA) senior warden Dominic Kapokola said that Mr Muleya was immediately rushed to Kamoto Mission Hospital where he was receiving treatment.
Villagers and workers in South Luangwa GMA are prone to attacks by lions and other wild beasts.
In a related incident, game warders in South Luangwa GMA have killed a lion that had been terrorising locals recently.
The lion has been chasing villagers and attacked a number of cattle and goats in the area.
South Luangwa GMA human-wildlife conflict coordinator Peter Chilandu said people had no option but to kill the rampaging lion.
Mr Chilandu feared that if quick action was not taken by his team several lives would have been lost and the loss on livestock would have been huge.
