THE Zambia Police Service has directed police officers to extend their daily patrols to areas where water tanks have been installed in Lusaka after receiving reports that the tanks were under attack by vandals.
Police spokesperson Esther Katongo (above) said police had received reports that some people had started vandalising water tanks installed in communities by Government to supply clean water following an outbreak of cholera in Lusaka.
Ms Katongo said that it was important for police officers to extend their patrols to those areas that had newly installed water tanks.
“We therefore wish to warn all those involved in this criminal act to desist forthwith or risk being arrested and prosecuted,” she said.
Ms Katongo appealed to members of the public who may have information about people behind the vandalism acts to report to the police without delay.
Meanwhile, the joint Times Printpak and Makeni Islamic Welfare Limited cholera taskforce has started distributing cholera awareness posters to schools.
Makeni Islamic Welfare Limited director Haroon Ghumra said that cholera prevention posters have so far been distributed to four schools which are Licef, Nkhwazi, Makeni Institute Trust Orphanage in Lusaka and IETZ in Chongwe.
Mr Ghumra said this week, more posters would be distributed to other private and Government schools.
He said the target in some schools like Nkwazi, was to distribute a poster for each classroom as requested by the school authorities.
Mr Ghumra said the posters have also been distributed to hospitals and some media houses.
He said the current posters were sponsored by Pro Print Limited and New Horizon Printing which both printed a thousand each.
