PRESIDENT Edgar Lungu has directed the Ministry of Finance to release K1.5 million towards the construction of the market shelter in Ndola’s Chifubu Township.
Chifubu Member of Parliament Frank Ng’ambi, who revealed this said an additional K1 million would come from the Constituency Development Fund (CDF).
Mr Ng’ambi said traders whose stands were demolished during the cleaning exercise should remain calm because plans to construct a market shelter were underway.
He said he would discuss with the council management on the proposed alternative trading place for those traders whose stands were demolished.
“President Lungu directed the ministry of Finance to release K1.5 million towards the construction of a market shelter. We have also K1 million from the CDF to construct the shelter and accommodate the traders whose stands were demolished,” he said.
Mr Ng’ambi commended the Marketeers for feeding to the government’s directive to clean the markets and have the illegal stands removed.
He assured the traders that he was doing everything to ensure that they were accommodated while the plans to construct a market shelter were under way.
Mr Ng’ambi said he was happy that the cleaning exercise had continued and that it would help prevent further spread of Cholera.
“As you know President Lungu made a directive to have markets cleaned and illegal structures demolished. I am happy the marketeers here in Chifubu are complying and we will continue to do so and make Chifubu clean. I want to assure the traders that we will provide an alternative trading place while we construct a permanent market shelter,” he said.
