GOVERNMENT has said the public service performance management package which will be implemented in all the local authorities by June this year will improve accountability of the councils for service delivery.
Local Government Permanent Secretary Amos Malupenga said the rolling out of the performance system was appropriate for implementation and would facilitate the on-going decentralisation process.
Mr Malupenga said therefore, there was need for local authorities, the ministry and Cabinet officers to cooperate for the programme to be a success.
He said in his opening remarks at a Performance management package roll out workshop for local authorities from the Copperbelt, Central and North-Western provinces in Ndola.
Mr Malupenga said the capacity in the utilization of the performance package would be built in the principal officers and the human resource personnel from all local authorities.
He also directed all councils to stop marketeers from vending from the streets as Government was embarking on country wide construction and rehabilitation of markets and bus stations.
Mr Malupenga said the local authorities in charge of planning were blamed for the cholera outbreak and that it was time they put their houses in order.
He said President Edgar Lungu had set a tone and that all council workers directly involved should emulate and ensure their cities and municipalities were cleaned to avoid the outbreak of cholera.
