By Emmanuel Tandwe –
THE Government will this year construct eight communication towers in Msanzala Constituency in Petauke District.
Msanzala Member of Parliament Peter Daka also said the Government would spend K700,000 to drill boreholes and improve water sanitation in the area so that people could have access to clean and safe water and avoid water-bone diseases such as  cholera.
Mr Daka said this when he inspected development projects in the constituency at the weekend.
He said the Government, under the leadership of President Edgar Lungu, was committed to taking development to the area by improving the network system and enhance information communication technology (ICT) subjects in schools.
The Msanzala lawmaker said ICT subjects in schools had been a challenge for a long time due to poor access to the network, which will now be a thing of the past when the towers are completed this year in all wards in the constituency and would cover a radius of 50 kilometres each.
Mr Daka said his office had donated computers to different schools in the constituency to enhance ICT leaning, but feared these would be irrelevant without the network and power in schools.
The parliamentarian said the tower in Mateyo-Muzeka Ward had been completed and would soon be switched on, and appealed to residents to safeguard the infrastructure and avoid vandalism as it retards development.
Mr Daka said the Patriotic Front Government was committed to bringing development to the people through network expansion, good road network and the power grid expansion to all parts of the district.
He said the role of parliamentarians was to lobby Government and ensure that they got the share of development their constituencies rather than be seen holding meetings everywhere all the time in their constituencies.
Mr Daka urged the people to be patient with the PF Government, especially President Lungu as he had been in power for only one year but had brought so much development to the area.
A resident of Kakwiya Village Jackson Mwanza thanked the Government through the Rural Electrification Authority for electrifying the village.
Mr Mwanza said many people’s lives had improved since the coming of electricity to the village.
Mr Mwanza, however, appealed to the Government to consider reducing the connection fee, which he said was too high for the residents owing to the low price of maize they sold during 2016/2017 farming season. – ZANIS
