SOUTHERN Province Minister Edify Hamukale was yesterday involved in a road traffic accident after his ministerial vehicle hit a pedestrian and overturning south of Kalomo.
Zambia Police spokesperson Esther Katongo said the accident happened 07:50 hours when a pedestrian attempting to cross the road was hit by the vehicle, causing the Dr Hamukale’s driver to lose control, in an effort to avoid hitting the pedestrian aged seven.
Dr Hamukale sustained minor injuries, while his driver sustained general body pains and the pedestrian identified as Godbless Siachisamu of Bridgepark in Kalomo, sustained a deep cut on the forehead and was admitted Kalomo District hospital.
“The accident occurred along the great north road two kilometers south of Kalomo town involved was a Toyota Land Cruiser GX registration number GRZ 733CN, driven from the north to south by Macmillan Mwanamwale of 43 Showgrounds area in Choma who sustained general body pains. Also involved was the passenger Minister of Southern Province Edify Hamukale of Riverside in Choma who sustained minor injuries.
“Also involved in the road traffic accident was a male juvenile pedestrian by the name of Godbless Siachisamu aged seven years of Bridgepark in Kalomo who sustained a deep cut on the forehead,”Ms Katongo said.
She said the minister was rushed to Livingstone Central Hospital for further treatment.
