A TWENTY-THREE-year-old woman is being held by police as a suspect in the death of her boyfriend who was stabbed to death in Lusaka’s Garden township.
Juliet Phiri is alleged to have knifed her 25-year-old boyfriend, Mathews Nasilele, also of Garden in the early hours of Wednesday after a quarrel.
Mr Nasilele’s screams for help prompted his landlord, Golden Kanyanga to alert other neighbours to the couple’s home around 01:00 hours, only to find him lying in a pool of blood.
Nasilele was rushed to Chipata’s Level One Hospital where he died soon after arrival.
Police spokesperson Esther Katongo said Mr Kanyanga, 44, reported the matter to Emmasdale Police Station, where a medical report was issued before Mr Nasilele was rushed to Chipata Level One where he died upon arrival.
“Officers rushed to the scene (of the crime), searched the house and found a knife which was suspected to have been used in the act under the mattress,” Ms Katongo said.
Ms Katongo said the case appeared to be another in a spate of gender-based violence murders the country had witnessed.
