KABWE  Mayor Prince Chileshe has donated 81 bicycles and K30,000 cash to all the district’s two constituencies and 27 wards for party mobilisation.
Meanwhile, Mr Chileshe, who is also Patriotic Front (PF) district chairperson, has warned that the party in the district will not take kindly those insulting and provoking President Edgar Lungu and damaging the image of the party.
Each of the wards was given two bicycles and K1,000 while the remaining bikes are to be distributed to Ward Development Committees (WDC) for development purposes across the district.
Kabwe comprises two constituencies; Bwacha and Kabwe Central.
The other K3,000 went to two constituency executives as well as the district leadership with all the women in the wards receiving chitenge materials.
Mr Chileshe said the gesture was part of his appreciation for the support he had received from party structures before the 2016 elections and after being elected as mayor of the provincial capital.
“I have started with you but I must state that 70 more bicycles will be donated to other groups and organisations like the blind. I am grateful to you all for your support and I want us to work together,” he said.
Mr Chileshe, who is one of the youngest mayors in Zambia, called for unity of purpose in the party that would help to develop the region and the country at large.
He said there was need for all party structures to defend the party and President Lungu from unwarranted attacks because the ruling party was on course in its quest to deliver development.
“I also want to tell you that we need to differ with anyone who insults or provokes the president because we all need to respect the president, and I am declaring that let’s not be in love with those that are provoking him,” he said.
At the same function, PF district chairperson Richard Bango said the party was behind the leadership of President Lungu and would not condoned indiscipline among members.
“The bicycles will help us to mobilise so that we deliver in 2021, so we are grateful. I am also assuring you that this party is bigger than individuals, so we need discipline and respect as we move together,” he said.
Mr Bango said the party in the area had also agreed to follow the directives from party General Secretary Davies Mwila to forgive and reconcile with Kabwe Central MP Tutwa Ngulube who had sued the party.
Earlier, Kabwe Central PF chairperson Andrew Sinyangwe called on the people in Kabwe to cooperate with the local authority as they addressed illegal land allocation in the district.
Mr Sinyangwe said it was sad that some people were inciting the community to stone council officials who were enforcing the ban on illegal land allocation.
