POLICE on the Copperbelt have warned and cautioned 10 Copperbelt University (CBU) lecturers for unlawful confinement of Vice-Chancellor Naison Ngoma following a protest last week.
Last week, some lecturers allegedly locked up Professor Ngoma in his office demanding his resignation.
Copperbelt Commissioner of Police Charity Katanga said the lectures were summoned to police following a complaint.
Ms Katanga said police had since recorded a warn-and-caution statement from each of the 10 after investigations into the matter.
She said some 44 lecturers were expected to be warned and cautioned once investigations were over.
“I can confirm that 10 lecturers from CBU have been warned and cautioned by the police and investigations in the matter are underway. Police have the power to investigate any criminality and if this matter is a labour issue, the other relevant authorities will take it up,” she said.
Meanwhile, a 19-year-old man has been apprehended for allegedly masquerading as a medical doctor at the Kitwe Teaching Hospital.
Hospital acting public relations manager Phoebe Chileya said Darlington Sabi was found wearing a fake identification card which was bearing different names.
