By HELLEN TEMBO – THE Civil Service Commission has banned civil servants from posting issues to do with their work on their personal social media platforms.
Civil Service Commission chairperson Dickson Chasaya warned civil servants against publishing or discussing Government issues on social media or giving statements to the Press.
Mr Chasaya said no civil servant below the rank of a permanent secretary was authorised to issue statements to the Press or the public pertaining to their work.
He said civil servants could issue statements to the Press only when given permission by their superiors.
Mr Chasaya said this at a Press briefing in Lusaka yesterday.
He said there would be consequences for any civil servant who failed to abide by the code.
“I will provide guidance to the civil servants that they should not discuss Government matters through social media or the Press,” Mr Chasaya said.
He said civil servants should know how to conduct themselves, by following the code of ethics of the public service.
Mr Chasaya said the permanent secretaries were the chief executives in the ministries and should not all civil servants to behave in any way they wanted.
He said the Civil Service Commission was open to all workers who wanted clarifications on the rules and regulations pertaining to their work or conduct.
Mr Chasaya said permanent secretaries together with human resource
officers should guide their officers in their organisations.
He said the civil servants could socialise on their personal issues but not publish or talk about Government matters.
