Days after saying he would not be pushed out of the Patriotic Front (PF), Roan Member of Parliament Chishimba Kambwili yesterday said he would stand as president on the National Democratic Congress (NDC) ticket in 2021.
Mr Kambwili, who was expelled from the PF last year, said that the NDC was a formidable party and would win the 2021 elections.
He said he was ‘done’ competing for parliamentary seats or anything else below the presidency because he was more experienced than some politicians who had gone on to rule Zambia.
The comments, made yesterday when he featured on Pan African Radio live programme, are his most unequivocal admission of his involvement with the NDC, having previously identified himself only as the party’s consultant.
During the interview, he kept referring to the NDC as ‘our’ party, and for which he would be running as its presidential candidate in 2021.
When asked by the radio presenter that the public view was that the NDC would not field a presidential candidate in 2021 but back the United Party for National Development because no one in the party was qualified, Mr Kambwili said he had the qualifications.
“Why wouldn’t we field in a candidate? I am here and I have more experience than some of these others who want to stand in 2021. Look, I am done going for MP or minister. In 2021 I am going for president,” Mr Kambwili said.
He said people should vote out the PF because of widespread corruption.
Mr Kambwili said the evidence  of  corruption was in the way the Government was doing its procurement.
He said there was no need to present specific evidence to prove his corruption claims but people should merely read in between the various contracts that the Government had gone into.
Mr Kambwili said those that still backed the PF by asking for specific evidence of corruption were acting foolish.
He said when NDC comes into power, he would get rid of all forms of corruption in Zambia.
