A KANSANSHI Mine business development consultancy firm, Fortune World Investments (FWI) has called on small and medium entrepreneurs in Solwezi and surrounding towns to stop trading in filthy places to prevent the outbreak of cholera.
Welcoming dozens of small and medium entrepreneurs who enrolled for the 2018 sessions Kansanshi Mine sponsored business training workshops on Tuesday, FWI managing director Mukumbi Kafuta said entrepreneurs should not resist when certain measures were taken to prevent the spread of cholera.
Mr Kafuta said there were a lot of negative feelings by traders that Government was not being fair, but to the contrary, it was for their good.
“You should not resist each time the local authorities tell you to move to a safer place, because that is for your own good as opposed to the council just wanting you not to do business,” he said.
He said if business people like other citizens took seriously the Keep Zambia Clean Campaign, there could not have been outbreaks of cholera in the country.
Mr Kafuta said entrepreneurs should keep highest standards of hygiene in business places and avert contracting or causing an outbreak of cholera.
He said when cholera breaks out, Government would put measures to ensure that there was sanity on the streets and trading places.
In the process of bringing about sanity, Mr Kafuta said traders were affected because they were told to move out which negatively affected business growth and livelihood of people.
“It’s time for traders to learn to be hygienic, keep trading places clean. Even when Government contains cholera, we will encourage all entrepreneurs to continue maintaining very high standards of hygiene at individual, home and surrounding levels,” he said.
Mr Kafuta said there was need to sensitise entrepreneurs and ensure that they all adhere to the call by the Ministry of Health to keep surroundings clean and maintain very high standards of hygiene.
