FIRE has swept through Radian Stores Mansa outlet in Luapula Province destroying property worth millions of Kwacha.
According to police investigations the fire started around 20:00 hours on Tuesday in the backstore where there was a toilet and a power distribution point and spread to the entire store.
Luapula Province police chief Hudson Namachila said the cause of the fire was yet to be established as well as the extent of the damage.
Mr Namachila said various property was destroyed but the quick response by the Fire Brigade helped minimize the damage.
“The building and the property were not completely gutted as the Fire Brigade quenched the fire in less than two hours,” Mr Namachila said.
He said Radian Stores company auditors from Lusaka were on site to determine the extent of the damage as well as quantify the damage of the fire while police were investigating the cause of the fire.
And Mansa district commissioner James Nyenjele said Government was sad that the store caught fire because it was a blow to the economy of the district as people were robbed of employment and the company had lost a lot of money.
Mr Nyenjele said the store was a supplier of original electronics giving the people of Luapula value for their money.
He said there was need for the district to ensure that effective measures were in place to protect investments against infernos.
