FORMER Solwezi East Constituency Member of Parliament (MP) Richard Taima has been sued for non payment of legal fees amounting to more than K400, 000.
In its statement of claim filed in the Lusaka High Court, Central Chambers indicated that the legal suit was necessitated due to the defendant’s failure to pay the money despite several reminders.
Mr Taima instructed Central Chambers to represent him in an election petition following his election during the 2011 polls.
The statement of claim indicates that Mr Taima failed to honour his obligation despite several reminders forcing the plaintiff to render a bill amounting K450,000 on February 1, 2016.
The first K70,000 was for the High Court proceedings, K30,000 for Supreme Court appeal and costs of K350,000 for both courts.
It stated that Mr Taima respondent in writing through e-mails followed by a letter dated March 3, 2016 undertaking to liquidate the same debt in instalments but had so far only paid K20,000 to the plaintiff and still owed an outstanding balance of K430,000.
“Despite several reminders from the plaintiff, the defendant without any justifiable reason and in breach of the agreements, has ignored, failed or neglected to pay the amount owed causing the plaintiff to suffer loss and damages,” read the statement of claim.
