NAKAONDE District Commissioner Field Simwinga has appealed to education authorities to rehabilitate more than 10 schools that were damaged by heavy rains recently.
Mr  Simwinga said about 12  primary schools have so far been extensively damaged in the district since the commencement of the rainy season.
Mr Simwinga said the District Education Board Secretary had written to his office that it required about K600, 000 to repair the damaged infrastructure and he was appealing to Government through the minister of Education to assist with funds.
“Ever since the rainy season started, the district has had a disaster of 12 primary schools being extensively damaged and the DEBS being unable to fully assist with the funds is calling on the ministry of Education and all other stakeholders to come on board and assist with any resources,” he said.
He said there was need to ensure that the affected schools were worked on before schools reopened especially that there was an extension on the opening dates.
“Let’s take advantage of the period we have before schools open to work on the schools that we can manage for now while we continue to rehabilitate others because it will be unfair for learners to learn in an unconducive environment ,”he said
Mr Simwinga said Government appreciated the good engagement with the corporate world and every efforts they rendered in the bid to supplement its efforts.
He named some of the affected institutions as Iloya, Nyela, Kanyimbo, Chilolwa, Katongo, Chawa, Uzinji, Nakasangati and Isansa primary schools.
