CABINET ministers yesterday offered their solidarity to President Edgar Lungu’s leadership, saying it was wishful thinking for some ‘frustrated’ politicians to claim that some of them were plotting to pull out their support from the Head of State.
Vice-President Inonge Wina, Patriotic Front (PF) Secretary General Davies Mwila and all the ministers held a closed-door meeting with President Lungu and reaffirmed their support and that nothing would separate them from working with him.
Chief Government spokesperson Kampamba Mulenga told journalists at State House yesterday shortly after meeting the Head of State that it was naive for some people to claim that the Government was crumbling and more ministers would resign.
Ms Mulenga, who was flanked by her counterparts, said all ministers believed in the policies of the PF unlike speculation on social media that more ministers would resign and that Cabinet was crumbling.
“This morning (yesterday) Cabinet ministers came here to show solidarity to His Excellency the President of this great Republic and of course to reaffirm and assure him of the loyalty of Cabinet ministers that we stand with him and we will support him,” she said.
“Unlike the speculation going on that Government is crumbling, it is not true”.
Ms Mulenga, who is Information and Broadcasting Services minister, said the ministers assured President Lungu that none of them was resigning, but remained loyal to his leadership.
She said the ministers, some of whom were out of the country while others were in their constituencies, had to abandon their work to go and reassure the President of their firm support.
She said President Lungu was so far the county’s best man and that his leadership was manifesting in improved livelihood for all citizens, regardless of political affiliation.
Ms Mulenga said the fact that President Lungu yesterday swore in two new ministers, namely, Alexander Chiteme and Joseph Malanji at National Development Planning and Foreign Affairs, respectively, meant that the Government was moving on smoothly.
No Cabinet minister, she said, was indispensible as all of them remained loyal to President Lungu and would abide by the regulations streamlined in Cabinet.
Ms Mulenga said although Harry Kalaba left as Cabinet minister, the country continued to move on with Government business going about normally.
