FINANCE Minister, Alexander Chikwanda on Sunday inspired a Zambia Revenue Authority (ZRA) team to victory in the annual Nc’wala Fundraising Golf tournament at Lusaka Golf Club.
Chikwanda with his team which included ZRA commissioner general, Berlin Msiska, Arthur Ndhlovu and Sydney Chileshe posted 107 points after 18 holes to take first prize.
In this event witnessed by Senior Chief Madzimawe where K35,000 was raised for this weekend’s Nc’wala Traditional Ceremony of the Ngoni people, the ZRA team was four points clear of runners-up Madison Life team.
With more than 200 golfers on the course, a Lama Engineering team settled for the third place on 101 points.
The Zambia Army side led by Deputy Army Commander Major-General Topply Lubaya was fourth after collecting 99 points.
In the individual stableford, Lornah Mwenda set the pace for lady golfers after carding 36 points, one better than veteran Hildah Edwards while Sergeant Chola Oka was closely following third position on 34 points.
As if taking the overall prize in the ladies’ category was not enough, Mwenda scooped the Nearest to the Pin prize on the 11th hole while Kaela Mulenga’s tee shot on the 18th hole won her the Longest Drive award.
In the men’s category, Hlomai Musiwa carded an impressive 40 points to take top prize while Joseph Tembo was second after winning a count-back over Robert Banda following a tie on 39 points.
Clive Zulu took the Longest Drive award while local professional Mohammed Zulu got the Nearest to the Pin prize.
Home Affairs Minister Ngosa Simbyakula, who graced the function, thanked the organisers for making the tournament an annual event.
Organising committee chairperson, Noel Nkoma described the tournament as successful.
