By DAVID KANDUZA –
AN employee of Luanshya Fire and Safety Control was killed when a fire extinguisher, which he was attending to at Luanshya Bakery premises, exploded on Friday night.
Copperbelt Police chief Charity Katanga and Luanshya Bakery director Nicos Taktikos confirmed the death of Preacher Mwila aged 48 of 1046, Kaoma Crescent, in Luanshya.
Ms Katanga said Mwila was assigned at the Luanshya Bakery premises by his employers to service fire extinguishers when he met his fate.
She said the diseased died upon arrival at Thompson Hospital after both his legs were amputed following the accident.
“This could be as a result of the deceased’s [negligence] in adding the chemicals and handling of the same,” she said.
When Sunday Times visited the accident scene, Mr Taktikos said they could not comment any further on the matter due to its sensitivity and because the incident was still under investigation.
“All I can say is that this is a very tragic incident,” he said.
The exact cause of the explosion was still under investigation by press time.
