COPPERBELT permanent secretary Bright Nundwe has warned civil servants against causing anarchy by not respecting hierarchy cause it is detrimental to President Edgar Lungu’s agenda of fostering development.
Speaking during his introduction to various heads of Government departments, Mr Nundwe said the Copperbelt being the heart of the country due to its sophistication and delicate manner, needed civil servants to work in harmony to drive Government’s agenda.
Mr Nundwe who was in the company of provincial minister Bowman Lusambo said that Copperbelt had serious issues of agriculture and the mining sector, therefore it could not afford to operate in the midst of confusion as it was unethical and would not be tolerated.
“We have of a crop of certain people that want to frustrate the Government programmes which to me is abnormal. I want to remold it, of course with your positive assistance. I don’t want to see a pedigree of civil servants that will just love the permanent secretary and hate my Minister. That I will not allow,” he said.
He warned that he would also not condone civil servants who chose to undermine his and the minister’s authority as that would be an insult to the provincial administration.
He further said any person who undermined his operations and that of the minister were insulting the President as his duty was to ensure sanity and order where upheld in the province.
Mr Nundwe reiterated that the Copperbelt being the most sophisticated and delicate province it was his desire to see a crop of people that were humble towards delivery of services with outstanding behaviour.
He added that Copperbelt was the heart beat of the Government and economic hub of the country and it was his desire to reach the apex of development and that could only be attained if there was absolute unity in the province.
“I want to see respect. If there is no unity you can’t develop. We don’t need to have commotion in any department there is no prudence in that.
Mr Nundwe said that he wanted absolute accountability in terms of resources in every single district and department.
Mr Lusambo urged heads of department to support Mr Nundwe by working as a team to foster development across the province.
He called on the civil servants to work in unity to help foster development in the province as the province had been faced with various issues which needed concerted efforts.
He noted the abuse of social media by civil servants during working hours and urged Mr Nundwe to rectify the situation.
Mr Lusambo said there was need to control the use of social media as it had the potential to destroy the country due to the rampant abuse that had characterised the country recently.
He further said that civil servants would not be allowed to practice partisan politics while executing their duties.
