THE Zambia Forestry and Forest Industries Corporation (ZAFFICO) Limited has said that there is nothing sinister about the trucks carrying mukula logs that were intercepted by cadres last week.
ZAFFICO board chairperson Jacob Mwitwa said Government appointed the corporation to export the confiscated logs, following the ban on the harvesting and trading of mukula logs, so as to prevent them from going to waste.
“ZAFFICO is not aware of any senior Government officials or civil servants who are involved in the export of mukula logs in their individual capacity as the mandate to export illegally harvested and confiscated mukula logs has been given to ZAFFICO,” Professor Mwitwa said.
Prof Mwitwa said in a Press release yesterday that there was nothing sinister about the 21 mukula-laden trucks which were recently intercepted by some cadres in Kafue and that the revenue being generated from the export of the logs would be utilised within the provisions of the Public Finance Act.
