TWO passengers have died while 18 others have been injured after the bus they were travelling in hit into a stationed truck at Isunda area in Nakonde District.
Muchinga Police Commissioner Chola Katanga said the accident happened in the early hours of yesterday when the driver of a Higer bus, registration number ALK 8335 belonging to Miracle Express and carrying 26 passengers hit into a stationed truck belonging to a Tanzanian.
Mr Katanga the driver of the bus, identified as Bernard Chishimba, 53 of Matero in Lusaka, died on the spot with the lorry boy dying later from
Tanzania identified as Wilfred Mabala.
“The accident happened when the driver of the Higer bus was driving at a high speed hit into a stationery truck and went off the road to the left and stopped after a few metres. Due to the impact the driver of the bus died on the spot and a lorry boy identified as Wilfred Mabala aged 24 of Dar Salaam in Tanzania who was in the stationery truck died upon arrival at the hospital,” he said.
The 18 injured passengers included Dennis Nyuke, 35, Chagumaira Andrew,
Makabangandingila Musewila of Bulawayo in Zimbabwe, Maureen Chomba, 31, of Nakonde, Daniel Nyambawe, 36, of Botswana and Robby Mwanza.
Others are Charity Kombe aged 46, Miniva Chenga, Moses Bwalya, Mostard Ng’ambi, Doreen Sabi, Lusinda passmore, VictoriaTembo , Kabwe Mwenya, Viana nakamba, Beauty Kabali, Collins Simukonda and Tobias Bwalya.
Mr Katanga said all the victims had been admitted to Nakonde District Hospital and attended to by medical officers.
He said the bus had its front part and right side extensively damaged while the Scania truck was also damaged and that investigations have been instituted.
